Behind the scenes, we were able to give fans an exclusive Backstage Pass with our first ever live co-viewing experience on Facebook (@MTV & @VMAs) and MTV.com.
We took viewers on an all-access adventure backstage at the 2018 VMAs! Through the night, our cameras allowed fans to become embedded within their favorite celebs’ entourages as they traversed the hallways with boy bands new (PRETTYMUCH!) and old (Backstreet Boys!), and congratulated Nicki Minaj as she exited the stage after her energetic performance at the Occulus.
Fans also had an opportunity to affect the show via live interactive polls as our host Gitoo posed choose-your-own-adventure style polls to affect the show’s outcome — “Should I go backstage? Or stay here?” Other polls let fans vote on their favorite retrospective looks from 2018 show talent, which would then be shared with the celebs for their own reactions.
