Kicking off our VMA season always has to be BIG. And what bigger way to do it than throwing a NYC block party to reveal our 2016 nominees on Facebook Live with the help of 15 of our closest friends, including Justin Bieber, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Elite Daily, Mail Online (UK), People, Refinery29, and more, who, in a highly-orchestrated symphony of meticulousness technical and logistical planning, simulcasted the event.
The VMAs are a canvas for artists like none other in music, and we wanted to set the tone that this year will be about celebrating music, artistry and creative expression…and how the biggest artists in the world bring it all together on MTV’s biggest night. Meredith Graves and Gaby Wilson hosted our stream from the First Street Green Art Park in the East Village, where we unveiled the 2016 Video of the Year nominees in a panoramic street mural painted by celebrated visual artists BD White, John Paul Ogrodnick (JPO), Damien Mitchell, Marc Evan, Resa, BKFoxx, Queen Andrea, Hektad, Giz, Such and Poem One.
